Another week of a favourite hobby. In the To Do Tuesday I like to put my big three. The ones that I want to focus on. I may dabble about with others, but so long as I put the main time into moving my big three along.  My main focus at the moment is getting my pre 2022 tops quilted. And… my 2022 tops meantime are piling up.

Week of 9th of August

  • Sew binding on my Carnival Ombre Quilt. ( the hand sewing part). Done and that’s a finish. It was a kit, I didn’t make the full quilt as I wanted it smaller.Ombre Carnival Finish.
  • Machine sew binding onto  Crazy 8’s Quilt. Done
  • I have layered another scrappy log cabin quilt and this week I’d like to get that quilted in a simple fashion. I am trying to get tops from pre 2021 quilted and then… well 2022 ones are piling up!! Done, I did as little quilting as possible but still will work I thinkLog Cabin Q

Week of August 16th.  My big three!

  • Machine sew binding on Log Cabin quilt
  • Hand sew binding on Crazy 8’s quilt to back.
  • Layer and start quilting another pre 2022 quilt top. This is an around the world scrappy quilt I got tired of, so I’ve put a border on and called it a day.  I will most likely quilt it in the lazy 8’s so that it gives me some practice with that design, and besides I like the texture it gives the quilt. Plus the around the word is squares so that gives me a guide to size.

Week of 26th July.

These are the main three, I’ll probably do other things as well but these are the priority!

  • Finish quilting the Ombre Carnival quilt and maybe get the binding sewn together. DoneOmbre Cranival Quilted.
  • Sew the blocks together of the Riley Blake challenge from earlier. Hopefully it will nearer to a top by the end of this week. Done.Riley Blake Challenge top
    • Sew together a jigsaw of batting for my next quilt to quilt. The quilt is scrappy and I will maybe try out an all over design I have seen Stitched by Susan do on her long arm. Harder on the sit-down so won’t be as good but as its not an important quilt it will hopefully be okay.  She calls it Crazy Eights.Batting sewn together, and all pinned ready to be quilted.Ready for Quilting

Week of 2nd of August.

  • Machine sew binding on Carnival Ombre Quilt
  • Quilt the Crazy 8’s design onto above pinned quilt.

Week for 19th of July

  • Continue putting together Edyta Sitar’s Mystery quilt 2020 ( sewed blocks in 2021) I should be able to finish sewing the top together this week. Done. I think I will put on a small border and then it will be another top to quilt!Mystery Top 2020
  • Start quilting the Ombre Carnival quilt Yes, well on the way. Went mostly for simple crosshatch although with all the colours on the top I’ve changed thread here and there. I think the back might be a bit of a mess but hopefully nobody much will look at that!
  • Start hand sewing the binding on my Rustic Charm quilt, its sat there waiting for over a week but I need to start it to complete it! NoIt’s still sitting there! One day I’ll feel like getting started on it!

Week of 12th July plans

  • finish last three days of 10 day challenge, today I will finish putting on a border and then I have a mystery quilt from last year that I started joining the blocks and the last two days will go on that one. I like that one and will be keeping it or giving it to someone special! Completed 10 day challenge and was pleased with inroads made on pre 2022 sewing on tops which are now almost all flimsies. Now to quilt everything!
  • piece some batting together and a backing for another quilt ready for a sandwiching. Done
  • Layer this Ombre Carnival quilt together ready for quilting, maybe even start quilting it. Going to do it really simple with mainly I think stitch in ditch , maybe some outlining.         It has been pinned together but no quilting done yet. Ombre Carnival pinned

Last week I didn’t link up, just didn’t quite make it but back again this week.

Week of 28th June Plan was

This week is busy and I am away on three days so keeping it light!

  • Keep quilting Rustic Charm. I did this and finally it was off the machine table and ready for a binding.
  • Prepare binding for it, will most likely have to be scrappy as I don’t have any big suitable fabrics. Decided against the scrappy binding and bought a brown fabric online that matches well enough and made the binding out of that.

In the meantime Sherri at A Quilting Life decided she was going to do a 10 Day Challenge and well… I decided what a good idea. It could be anything and I went with what was uppermost on my mind! Previous to ’22 half finished tops.  So far I have completed 7 days and have three to go. 10 days feels so doable. I am just spending 30 minutes each day and then if time I can work on this year and that is working well.  It doesn’t have to be a sewing challenge – can be anything so maybe every month I’ll do a 10 day challenge on something.

I did finish a quilt that has hung in the cupboard for over five years because it was quilted terribly (by me) on a Pfaff machine that was hopeless for quilting although piecing was fine on it. I love the fabric on this quilt (very me) but don’t like the backing. It now has its binding on and been washed and in the airing cupboard. On the next fine non stormy day (winter here) I’ll drop it down to the Salvation Army place. Might keep someone warm.

Week of 20th January 2020

It’s time I got a little bit more active here so I have decided to mostly join up with Home Sewn’s Tuesday Linky.Banner

This is what I planned for last week.

To Do Tuesday 14th January.

  • Join up the blocks and rows on my Ombre Carnival Quilt.
  • Make some more vintage blocks.
  • Continue on with the Scrappy Crossroads leaders and enders blocks.
  • Continue to work on the memory quilt block.

I am almost joined up for my Ombre Carnival Quilt goal for January. I then will make a decision about adding a few more blocks to the bottom section, which at present I am thinking yes. Just so its rectangular rather than a square. But that’s not part of this month’s goal.

I spent most of my time on the vintage blocks and have added quite a few to the couple I had from last week.

photo of vintage blocks

Lori Holt in the final layout (I am a long way off yet) has an American flag which of course isn’t appropriate for my quilt so I have been thinking about how to fill the space and I think I do have a partial solution, just have to work out exactly what. Maybe a vintage looking school house!

I did continue on as I pieced these blocks and my ombre quilt blocks with my leaders and enders. It slows the process down a little but… I have eventually another  quilt at the end of it. My 4 patches and other blocks that go to make up the main block are all sitting here waiting to be put into a full block.

The memory quilt block

I did some work on one part of a block – paper piecing and a little appliqué.

I also delivered my previous Scrappy Crossroads Quilt to one of my sisters Pauline, when I don’t know what to do with a quilt I put it on our family Facebook group and say “Anybody want it?” Pauline said yes in a matter of minutes, so that was great. Although I do have a quilt for her too in the pipeline she doesn’t know about!

I received a request, while visiting, from her grand daughter – my great niece, for a quilt – she likes pink, (but not hot pink) yellow and blue and wants to have some dogs on it. Oh and monkeys! Well I am a little nervous about all that! Thinking the dogs will be appliqué and there could be monkeys on the back as Tula Pink has some monkey fabric but then again there is some cute pink fabric with dogs that could go on the back too. I’ll mull on it a little longer. I did tell her that it would be 2021 before I’d get to it, we all know we have so many projects on the go! However now it’s all I can think about!

Scrappy Crossroads Quilt

I also received a couple of lovely packages of fabric in the post as well. Lori Holt fabric for a couple of the quilts of hers I want to make. A Farm Girl one because it would be perfect for one of my sisters who quilts too, but still! And she is starting a quilt along Vintage Housewife at the end of this month so I am joining in with that.

To Do week of 20th

Continue with my memory quilt block.
Piece together all the carnival ombre quilt rows and that will be my OMG finished for January.
Make another block or two in the Vintage block along.
Maybe piece a Scrappy Crossroads block together.
Whatever takes my fancy.  I like room for picking up what I feel like when I like!

Linking up with Elm Street Quilts.

A new year and another project to work on this January. I am going to work on my Ombre Carnival Quilt.  A kit I fell in love with last year.

My goal is to get the stitch and flip sections completed and then the blocks sewn together in rows. It isn’t quite the full quilt, I need to decide whether I stop with this size or add the rest of it, or keep the remainder for another quilt. I will see.

What it looks like at the moment.
