Plans for the last two weeks were

  • Next Blockheads block. Well its been two weeks so two blocks2 latest Blockheads 5.
  • Quilt the stars on the Oh My Stars quilt and then add binding. Done, this was just the small size but that’s okay by me. I used Cozy Up 5inch squares and a border from that fabric. Stars from my stash. Oh My Stars.
  • Start in on making the edge blocks, half and quarter B blocks  for the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt, then start sewing rows. I did get this done and all the rows are together. I am really not in love! I used different colours, which did not quite work. However it was all those points and small blocks that did me in. The back of this top is very messy!! It’s not for me, I don’t mind a BOM but I am a person really who likes to know where they are going!  Thanks to Bonnie Hunter anyway, she is very talented with scrap quilts.Mystery 24
  • My February WIP turned out to be the 3″ blocks I’d made during Sewcialites 2. I’d made 12 of them so I will turn them into cushions. (pillows) I have completed one.Cushion 1
  • Finally I am making a temperature quilt with the free pattern from FQS. January is finished and the block made. A tree is for the last day as there are 31 days in January. I am using scraps from my stash, on the back of the quilt I’ll put a key to each fabric. The dark pink is 27-28 degrees C.  which is about 82 degrees F. However it has not been so much the temps as the humidity that has been the issue.  Very high.January temps

Plans for the Coming Week(s)

  • Make another cushion (pillow)
  • Make next Blockheads block
  • Maybe trim the edge of the mystery quilt and then sew a lap to keep the stitches firm. I am going to eventually add a border but I am not putting on the final pieced border. Had enough!
  • Keep the February temperature block going.
  • Whatever I feel like working on.

Plans for May 31st week were

  • Continue making Rustic Charm blocks. I have 36 which is enough to give me a 60 x 60 inch quilt which is about all I want.
  • Add some blocks to the Riley Blake layout. Finished all the link blocks, however feels like not enough space in some places, I am thinking of putting in some sashing, but taking it down off the wall and leaving it for awhile as want to focus on Rustic Charm top. Might have green posts, will think about it.Irish Chains RBC
  • Serendiptiy. – I decided one plan to take me wherever I feel like picking up.So I decided one day to pin together my Scrappy Crossroads top I made last year. So that made it ready for quilting.Crossroads
  • I also made a cushion from a drawing from Miss 8 year old, she’d drawn one of her favourite characters from a book, on fabric I’d given her. We used crayon that I heat set.Cushion 4 AudreyAnd best of all I finally finished off the hand sewing on the binding of my Nine-Patch Square Dance quilt and can now call it finished. So  pieced and quilted in 2022!  I love it, it was made from scraps mostly, left over from another quilt.  I need to get a really good photo of this one for my 2023 calendar. nine patch square dance

Plans for June 7th Week

  • start piecing the Rustic Charm top together
  • Quilt as much as I can on the Scrappy Crossroads quilt.
  • Serendipity – because I like not planning and then picking something up on a whim. Best of both worlds because 1 & 2 are planning and 3 is mood sewing.

Backings for Quilts

Linking Up with Elm Street Quilts

My goal was to take out all the quilt tops I have finished and to see if I had backings for them. If there were backings I was aiming to quilt some of them.

I know this seems like a lot of goals, but really only one! Face up to what’s lurking about and I am ignoring!

So what I did was I stopped working on any WIP. And… I refused (so far to start a new project, although I did buy a pattern and fabric for a future boy project.) Well I did keep going one WIP because it was a sew along. I have loved the Sewcialites sew along run by the Fat Quarter Shop.

I have to say first up, now that it’s nearing the end of June, I feel really good about what I did this month. Sort of boring sewing scrappy backings but it did soak up some odd scraps of fabric.

Five backings made, and the last top I have ordered some wide backing for it. Was happy to see I had saved fabric for the binding!

Some time ago, well last December, I pulled apart a top I had made from a Lori Holt pattern and the tops I’d made were in the cupboard too, but… I had organised backings as well, made from the blocks as well, so those I set about quilting as they were smaller tasks.  Repurposed Quilt Top.

I started with the small quilt destined to go to the neonatal hospital ward where those born early are cared for. I will need to make another couple before I send this one. They like them 29 inches by 35 inches. This one is pretty close. I also did the backing using one of the blocks.

Front and back of cushion. I had to make it size 20 inches as the shop didn’t have the 18 inch inner I would have gone for. The back gave me a little practise with a ruler! I always use A Quilting Live You Tube video when making a cushion and putting in the zip!

And finally I quilted a small table runner for an area I like to put one in and also quilted a couple of mug rugs.Mug rugs and runner
